“Azithromycin Powder for oral suspension” is currently unavailable.

Alternatively, 15 ml of the suspension containing 200 mg Azithromycin / 5 ml can be prepared by the parent or caregiver as follows:

1.    In a drinking glass, weigh 9 g of tap water on a kitchen scale (or measure 9 ml of water with a plastic syringe).  The tap water should be as warm as possible to the body (about 40 degrees Celsius).
2.    3 Azithromycin 250 mg Film-coated tablets are added to the glass.
3.    Stir gently with a spoon until the tablets have completely disintegrated into a milky suspension. This takes a few minutes if room temperature water is used, and up to 30 minutes if cold water is used.
4.    15 g of household sugar is weighed out in a second glass.
5.    Add the sugar to the tablet suspension and stir well with a spoon.

The obtained thick suspension should be kept in the water glass at room temperature and not in the refrigerator – cover the glass with a napkin. Stir well with a spoon before use.

The suspension is stable for up to 5 days.

For dosing, proceed as indicated in the Package Leaflet. To do so, dip the plastic syringe into the suspension and slowly draw the required amount into the syringe.

If no plastic syringe is available for dosing: one full coffee spoon corresponds to about 5 ml of suspension containing 200 mg of Azithromycin.
